SUMMERTON RECEIVES GRANT FOR MOBILE MEDICAL CLINIC

SC Ports Authority supports local “Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic”

The Town of Summerton Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic has received a $1,000 grant from the South Carolina Ports Authority Community Giving Awards to launch the Midlands region first rural, nonprofit, drivable medical outreach clinic.

The new mobile primary healthcare facility – 20 foot shipping container, mounted on a truck chassis trailer, is outfitted with state-of-the-art diagnostic and medical devices that provide the best possible support for care and compliant with all temporary and/or permanent health codes for mobile health clinic regulations.

Anticipated to begin operations in early 2022, the Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic is expected to attract a rotating staff of nursing students enrolled in the areas accredited nursing education programs under the supervision of a licensed nurse practitioner.  A member of the South Carolina Free Clinic Association the clinic will provide clinical opportunities for students and practice opportunities for faculty. The mission of the Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic is to provide quality healthcare, at no cost, to residents of the community who cannot pay for such services and who have no health insurance and need care.

“The mobile clinic is another example of hard work paying off as we seek new and innovative ways to meet community needs,” says Summerton mayor Mac Bagnal.

The SCPA has awarded $205,000 in grants to 111 community organizations and nonprofits throughout South Carolina as part of its fiscal year 2022 Community Giving Program. The grant marks the second award provided to the Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic. In August 2021 the project received a $10,000 award from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Community Challenge grant program.
